A Webby Nominee in the 22nd Webby Awards

Best news ever. Woke up to a bright and sunny San Diego (I was officially on vacation visiting my mom in San Diego for Easter holidays) and opened my work iPhone to check for work e-mails (yes I am that dedicated) and one e-mail stood out–

Congratulations! You are officially a Webby Nominee.

I am flabbergasted as I was about to open the email, a hundred thoughts ran through my mind — is this real? Am I dreaming, am I misreading the subject or is it really it?

“Dear CHERYL,
Congratulations! On behalf of the International Digital Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, it is my pleasure to inform you that the following work has been recognized as a Nominee for the 22nd Annual Webby Awards…”

BEST NEWS EVER. EVER. EVER.
I think I could retire now.

Any web designer / webmaster born in this instance of the multiverse would have dreamt of the Webby. The Webby Awards is like the Grammy’s of the Internet, the top award-giving body in recognizing excellent websites. Being a Nominee alone is a huge achievement — the work is recognized as one of the five best in the world in its category (in this case Best Navigation / Website Structure).

Still a bit in disbelief, I clicked on the link in the e-mail to see the listing. Weirdly enough it took me to another category, so I browsed around for the right category our work has been nominated under, and there in all its glory I saw the entry:

It’s really there, Tokyo: Modern/Tradition, a special microsite I designed and built together with the best team ever. It’s really there as one of the 5 website nominees in the Best Navigation/Website Structure category.  It’s not an e-mail error, it’s real!

Throwback: 1998 – my first Philippine Webby

I’ve dreamt of the US Webbys since 1998 when I won my first Philippine Webby Award (definitely not young eh!), when I was still a student. 20 years after, here it is, the US Webbys. The grammys of the web. Even if we didn’t win this one, the nomination alone is a validation and a great feat.
